After the cameo-laden disaster that was BOBBY, actor-writer-director Emilio Estevez went with a smaller budget cast (assuming he got dad on the cheap) for THE WAY, a story about a father dealing with the death of his son. It’s an excellent choice for a character driven narrative, except that here the characters leave a little something to be desired. It’s one treacly moment upon the next, all adding up to a wholly predictable arc. Yet there’s a twist–I was completely engrossed. It’s not rational, but it’s not a first either (Moonlight Mile, anyone?). I tear up when I’m supposed to, giggle with carefully timed relief and generally don’t fret the implausible. It s
